Keep the horse ahead of the cart

Posted by admin

I’m really getting to be a Build A Niche store junkie and I’m one of the few that actually enjoy their forum. I’ll check it out 3-4 times per day just to see what’s going on. Anyway, over the last 3 months I’ve seen a reoccurring theme among new users. New users simply do not get BANS!

The typical new BANS owner thinks it’s something that you can just install and poof you can quit your day job. Oh, how untrue. The new user normally installs BANS and then immediately goes to check their EPN account to see if someone bought something. Then they check it an hour later and an hour after that. They think that the default BANS installation is some sort of money magic.

The reality is that they put the cart ahead of the horse! BANS is just a piece of affiliate software. It pulls eBay listings and displays them on a page. This in no way can drive a Web site. Listings do not drive visitors to your site!

However content does. Content is your horse. Content is why people visit your Web site. Content is what the search engines need in order to rank your site. Content is what brings people to the listings on your site.

That is why it is so critical not to put the cart (BANS) ahead of the horse (content).

Build A Niche Store Case Study - Day 5 Reporting

OK, so our Sunday stats are in and we had 33 clicks for the day with no sales. Now, that doesn’t mean somebody didn’t buy with all those clicks. It just means somebody has not bought yet… Gotta look on the positive.

See we hope that someone clicks a link and wins an auction on the day they click, but it doesn’t always happen that way.

The great thing about Build A Niche Store and eBay is that visitor can buy something within 7 days and I still get credit. So, now is not the time to panic. Save that for next week.

But, tomorrow is going to be a huge day. I’ll have a video post for tomorrow and we will discuss how to push forward and refocus our effort with some new keywords that will help us transition our experiment away from PPC and toward organic search results.

Build A Niche Store Case Study - Day 1 Template, Content…

OK, we have made a ton of progress today. We picked a niche an installed the store. Now we will modify it slightly and add some content. Then I will create a PPC campaign to jumpstart the traffic to the site.

Also, it’s important to note my PPC technique. I always say that this is an auction site in my ad. Don’t try and con a visitor into coming to your site. The only person you are hurting is yourself. Tell them upfront that they will be viewing auctions. Save everyone some time.

Also be sure an install your Google Analytics. The reports speak volumes about your visitors and what they do on your site.

Be sure to check back tomorrow to see how our first day went!
